For the 13-year-old Geordie would rather be a sailor than an actor. And his dad says: "acting's not a very regular job. I'd like him to take up a trade and get some security." Barry's big moment comes in the hit comedy series AUF WIEDERSEHEN, PET (ITV 9.0). He was picked from hundreds of young hopefuls in Tyneside schools to play Rod, the love-tug son of Oz (Jimmy Nail). And tonight he turns in a tear-jerking performance in the acting debut but which also doubles a a farewell performance. Says Barry: "My dad was a gunner in the Navy and I'd like to join up whenI leave school." Today he'll be home on holiday from Benfield Road School, Wallsend, and his dad, George, an unemployed labourer, will also be there to share tonights big moment with him. ====================================================================== Text (c) Mirror Group Newspapers 1986.
