Beesthorpe Hall

Above is a
building that no doubt all of you will recognise. It is
Beesthorpe Hall in Nottinghamshire. It was this house that
played the part of Thornley Manor in the second series of
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. In this section I will take you
through the various filming locations around the house, and
explain how they were used then and what they are used for
now.
This is the east
wing of the house. Outside as we see it here was where we
saw Wayne shout to tell Moxey and Oz that they were going to
the pub. Inside is the room that all the lads dosed down in.
As you can see it has changed very little. The only thing
that has been included is some concrete ballasts along the
terrace of the house. This was put here to stop the
grandchildren of the owners of the house from falling and
hurting themsleves. The grass is also now a lot shorter.

Here is the main
door of the property where Oz and Moxey emerged and Oz made
his "What are you peasants.." speech. The door that was used
in the series has now been given to another property, as you
can see. This door leads to the main hallway (the following
picture).

I couldn't
resist this. This is the main stairwell in the hallway of
Beesthorpe Hall. He we saw Moxey stare between his legs as
the fraud squad entered the property. The hall way leads to
the music room on the left (where the lads all dossed down
in), to the dining room and kitchens on the right and
upstairs to the various bedrooms. The hall has a beautiful
tiled granite floor that is not obvious in the filming.

This is the
music room, the room that the lads all dossed down in. You
can clearly see the fireplace, next to which Wayne slept.
You can also see where Oz slept, the space that now occupies
a piano. The 'party' video was also filmed in this room.
This photograph is (C) K. Hogan & A. Brown.

Here is a better
shot of where Wayne slept (demonstrated by myself).

This is the
upstairs landing, where Neville looked for Oz after he moved
his bed during the night. Also, the first interior shot of
the house was filmed here, where Ally, Dennis and Hallwood
came out of the back bedroom and descended the stairs
(further below).

This room, on
the second floor is one of the oldest rooms in the house,
and in the series served as Dennis' office.

This corridor
leading to a seperate part of the house is the corridor that
MaGurke (The Ghost) was seen to walk. Interestingly enough,
the real Beesthorpe ghost is said to walk near here.

Here is part of
the back gardens where the lads sat around the fire on their
breaks. Also here is the window that Oz and Moxey broke
through on arrival to gain entrance to the house. As you can
see, very little has changed. Evening the water pump is
still here.

Here is another
view of the back area. This is where Helen Bellamy noticed
Oz and Moxey breaking in. Also filmed here was the 'Golf
Lesson' video that Oz and Bomber found in the cellar
(below).

This is the
cellar where Bomber and Oz found the video cassettes, one of
which incriminating Arthur Pringle. All that has changed
down here is that the cupboards have had a fresh coat of
paint.

This is the side
terrace where Oz and Harry Blackburn sat discussing Merle
Haggard.

Here is a view
of Beesthorpe Hall's impressive driveway leading down to the
main road.

Here is
Beesthorpe Hall seen from the driveway. This was where we
first saw the lads arrive at the manor.

Here is the
kitchen of Beesthorpe Hall. Here we saw Barry make his
suggestion about brass rubbing. A false wall was built half
way down during filming, to hide the owners built in Aga
cooker.

Both my research
team and I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the
owner of Beesthorpe hall and her family for allowing us to
take and publish pictures of their beautiful house. From
