Well Auf Wiedersehen Pet has not got what you would call an extensive list of collectables, but there were, and still are, one or two items of interest that the fan of today may still be interested in. (Me also. If anyone has something that they consider interesting, then email me and tell me about it).

The Videos.

The first collection of videos where single packs of the first series, with, on average, three episodes per tape. The covers were mainly maps of Germany with photos from the series superimposed on to the background, another background was similar to a note book, also with superimposed pictures. The second releases were double boxed sets by Central Video. There where two double sets to each series. The backgrounds were always coloured brick work with a relevant photograph central to it. The back ground colours were thus. Sereies one, part one was blue and navy, part two being pink and red, whereas series two part one was light and dark green, with part two being yellow and white.

The next videos were similar to the first releases, three episodes on average per tape, one series at a time, although all of the series one videos carried the same photograph, and the series two videos also retained the same photograph ( This being a mirrored photograph of the lads in front of the manor). After this, Central video, now called CTE video re-relaesed their double boxed sets, but this time with the background colour being much darker. These double boxed sets were re-released again, with the light colours restored and better quality superimposed photographs. The only other video that was released was one in a series of videos called "First ever episode", which released the first ever episodes of shows such as Inspector Morse and The Sweeney. Naturally the Auf Wiedersehen Pet release was "If I were a carpenter". This has a foil label with a photo of the lads on the front, and just plain text on the back.

Videos and DVDs of the series can be purchased from PetShop!

DVDs

All three series are now available on DVD Region 2 Format. Four discs each for series one and two, and a double disc pack for series three.

Although there are no extra features, the first two series have filmographies, trivia note, photo galleries, commentaries by Dick Clement and Ian LaFrenais, and the last disc of series 2 contains an intercative quiz.

These DVDs are available through PetShop

Novels

Two novels were written of the series. They were both written by Fred Taylor, and were rather abridged from the series' that they dipicted. They were entitled 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet' and 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet 2' (ISBN 0-7221-3674-9). Unfortunately, these novels are now well out of print, and do not appear very regularly in second hand book shops, charity shop etc.

A new Programme Guide entitle 'That's Livin Alright - The Auf Wiedershen Pet Story' by Dan Waddell, is published by BBC Books later this year.

Audio Tapes.

Fred Taylors first novel, 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet' was abridged even further and turned in to a four part audio drama. This was performed by Christopher (Moxey) Fairbank. The TV stories that it covered were 'If I were a carpenter', which comprised of two audio parts, 'The girls they left behind' and 'The Accused'. Unfortunately, this is also no longer available. Other items were various vinyl recordings of the themes, both on single and LP versions, and two CDs were pressed. One just contained the themes of series one, when Channel 4 resurrected the series in 1995, and the other CD I have already described in the music section.
