Music and Lyrics

In this section
we look at the seven songs that were written for the series
and sung by Joe Fagin (Series One and Two) and Mark Knopfler
(Series), as well as an AufPet song by Gary Holton and
Casino Steel. To view the lyrics for each song, simply click
on the hotlink on the song titles.
The four title
themes for the series were fantastic. The closing theme from
the first series 'Thats livin' alright' managed to
get to number three in the UK pop charts. The second series
themes 'Get it right' and 'Back with the boys
again' only reached the fifties mark, but were still
fantastic. All of the featured songs were sung by vocalist
Joe Faign, whose work ranged form these television themes,
to his own work, to cover versions of Lennon and McCartneys
slower numbers, a very versatile performer indeed. The songs
were as follows.
Series One-(Opening)
Breaking Away -(Closing)
Thats Livin' Alright.
Series Two-(Opening)
Get It Right -(Closing)
Back With The Boys Again,
and featuring -
The Seven Again, and -
Tonights The Night.
Series 3 - Why
Aye Man
All of these tracks and some of the good incidental music
are available on CD on the Prestige Label,
'The Best Of
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet - One And Two', Code -
CDSGP0201.
Gary Holton, also wrote and sand a song about the first
series, which was on the album "Gary Holton and Casino No.
4". It was simply called 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet', and the
lyrics
are here.
