Nottinghamshire Locations

Hello and
welcome to the Nottingham section of the location guide.
Nottinghamshire was used for various parts of the filming of
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. The main reason for this was that it
was local to Lenton Lane Studios, where all of the indoor
scenes were filmed. Hence, the Wolverhampton and Derbyshire
sections were filmed here. Even some Newcastle and even
Dusseldorf scenes were shot in this area. In this guide, I
have attempted to list them. If you know of any more, then
do please
email me.
This section
contains so many pictures it has become necessary to split
this section up in to pages. Once a page has been viewed,
the next can be accessed by clicking the arrow at the bottom
of the screen.
Without further
ado, lets get on with the pictures.
Here is a
building that needs no introduction. Through the main part
of the second series we saw the magnificent seven convert
'Thornley Manor' in to a rest home for retired gentle folk.
Left is a picture of the house as it stands today. Notice
the spire has now gone (this was a purpose built prop to
make the building look more 'Victorian' (The house actually
dates back to the 16th century.)). Apart from this, the
building is just as we all remember it.
The building is Beesthorpe Hall in the village of Caunton in
Nottinghamshire, and it is still owned today by the same
family who lived there during the filming.

There is so much to say about this location, that is has
it's own section. To carry on reading and seeing pictures of
Beesthorpe hall please

Here is another building from series two that needs no
introduction. We all saw the Windmill Inn double up as 'The
Barley Mow', which set the scene for chaos between the
grumpy landlord Arthur Pringle, and the magnificent seven.
The Windmill Inn is about a 30 minute drive south of Caunton
in the small village of Redmile. However, the current
landlord and landlady were not actually present during
filming.

Sticking with
the village of Redmile, here is the telephone box from which
Dennis phoned Ally to tell him about the preservation order
been slapped on Thornley Manor.

Here is the
country cross road that we watched Wayne drive across to get
to the Cross Keys, and further below is the building that
served as the Cross Keys. This is not a pub or hotel
at all. This is the entrance to a private estate. The Denton
estate, in Denton. Denton is close to Redmile, home of the
Windmill (Barley Mow) Inn.
